It is а common stereotype in media theory as well as in our everyday small talk that 'the media' determine our perception of life to such an extent that 'realities' disappear. One way how to react is escapism. I suppose we all know these small getaways when we leave our computers and city lives for a week or two, proudly and publicly declaring in our blogs and post boxes that we will be offline! After a short time at the countryside we nevertheless return to our metropolises and offices. One who has chosen to "ruralize" more consistently is the Russian writer Dmitrij Bykov who moved from St. Petersburg to a small village in the province: "Провинция - это слово всегда звучит пренебрежительно. А я, чем дольше тут живу, тем больше мне нравится." Fortunately his escapism does not extend to his being online and he shares his impressions from life at the countryside with us in his blog. Reading his posts is among my daily routines, like taking a breath of fresh air before entering the world of news and politics ... banja, mushrooms, firewood for winter times, those are the ingredients (not only?) of my dreams of an alternative life.Gorčev in quite some of his posts reflects on the conditions of his escape from the metropolises and the media.
