RuNet and Political Change
"Russia's New Media Paradox" is the name of a New York Review blog entry posted yesterday by Maksim Trudolyubov. Editor of the commentary section of the Russian newspaper Vedomosti, Trudolyubov uses the entry to dwell on the political impact of Russian new media. He develops a subtle argument: in a text rich with news facts on Russian new media usage, he first confirms, but ultimately contradicts the idea that digital media provide a platform for political change in post-Soviet Russia (strong echoes of the Oxford-based research project "The Web That Failed" here). Readers who, like me, enjoy reading Trudolyubov's conclusions but are not convinced by all of them, may be interested in reading the first - critical - reader comment, right below the text. They might be interested in reacting on his ideas, too. Is the Russian-speaking web "failing" indeed? And does one of our readers feel the urge to respond to that hypothesis? If so, you can do so directly under Trudolyubov's text, ofcourse, but you're welcome to do so here as well.ER
