Ab 1. August 2011 werde ich als neuer Redaktionsleiter der «Aroser Zeitung» tätig sein. Mit dieser kleinen, lokalen Wochenzeitung im Kanton Graubünden eröffnet sich mir ein anspruchsvolles neues «Fachgebiet» - höchste Zeit für eine konsequente Entflechtung meiner Online-Identitäten.

Was ist ein Social Media Newsroom? Was erfordert er und was bringt dieses Kommunikationsinstrument den Beteiligten? Diese Fragen werde ich im Juni 2011 an zwei Workshops beantworten, am 8. Juni bei learningZ von XING und am 30. Juni beim Social Media Jump Start in der Digicomp Academy (beide in Zürich).

Die neue Facebook-Seite «Facebook and Journalists» macht Journalisten mit Social Media vertraut. Die Online-«Akademie» von Facebook dient Journos als Quelle für News und Infos, als Forum für den interaktiven Dialog mit dem Leser und — als Multiplikator für Artikel und Reportagen.

Die russische Nachrichtenagentur RIA Novosti gründet unter dem Namen RIA Media Lab ein neues Innovationszentrum für Mediaforschung. Das Lab soll die Tendenzen des Mediamarktes analysieren, Trends prognostizieren, Innovationen implementieren und Journalisten ausbilden.

There's some provocative commentary I've heard today about the 'disappointing' role of social media in reporting on the tragic terror strike in Moscow. The lament is that the usual flood of tweets mainly constitutes re-tweets of mainstream news reports. However, while daytime progammes have continued to air undeterred by the news coming in, it is the internet that has served as the refuge of those with things to report and those keen to be kept abreast of goings-on.
